Wool Week
First established a decade ago and supported by HRH The Prince of Wales, the Campaign for Wool’s Wool Week highlights wool’s natural performance qualities and ecological benefits.
Raising awareness of wool and inviting consumers to ‘Make a Difference’ in a drive to reduce plastic and micro-fibre pollution to the earth.
As we launch our You, Me & the Sea collection we take a look at the benefits that wool has in our fight against plastic pollution in our seas.
BENEFITS OF WOOL FOR OUR SEAS
BIODEGRADABLE
Whilst it has been known for decades that wool biodegrades in soil, adding nutrients back to the earth, more recent studies have shown that wool also biodegrades in the ocean and water, and so does not impact the planet with microfibre and plastic pollution.
Unlike synthetics which are extremely slow to degrade and when washed, release microfibres that flow down our drains, through water treatment plants, and out into our rivers, lakes and ocean.
DURABLE
Wool's natural properties mean that they are durable with less need for constant washing and replacing; fewer garments need to be produced, and less water is wasted.
WHY WOOL IS THE PERFECT POST SEA ACCESSORY
HOLDS HEAT
Wool constantly reacts to changes in body temperature and acts as an insulator when its cold, making it the perfect post sea comforter. Rather than letting cold or hot air in, wool works to regulate to a natural body temperature.
WARM, EVEN WHEN WET
Wool is super practical and even keeps you warm when wet thanks to its high absorbency, meaning it can hold moisture for longer than other fabrics before you start to feel wet.
Wool also repels moisture away from your body, stopping cold, wet surfaces from resting against your skin.
Whilst woollen garments might take longer to dry, they really will keep you warmer for longer so are ideal to wrap up in after a dip in the sea.
...
We can’t think of anything we'd rather do right now than a sea swim, followed by a snuggle in our favourite wool blanket, whilst holding a flask of steaming hot tea.
