We’re Proud to Be Reserve Guardians of Penhale Dunes 🌿
We’re excited to share something close to our hearts: Atlantic Blankets is officially a Reserve Guardian of Penhale Dunes, one of Cornwall’s most beautiful and ecologically important landscapes.
For us, this is more than a title - it’s a meaningful step in our journey to protect and give back to the place we call home.
What Makes Penhale Dunes So Special?
Nestled along the north coast of Cornwall, Penhale Dunes stretch over 1,000 acres, making them one of the largest dune systems in Britain. But what’s truly remarkable about Penhale isn’t just the sweeping views or golden sands - it’s the rare and fragile ecosystem hidden within.
Home to wildlife you won’t find anywhere else, from rare plants to endangered insects and birds, Penhale Dunes are a biodiversity hotspot. These dunes act as a natural barrier against coastal erosion and provide a sanctuary for species that rely on this delicate environment.
Why We’ve Become Guardians
At Atlantic Blankets, we’ve always drawn inspiration from the Cornish coastline - the wild seas, rugged cliffs, and windswept beaches that shape our designs and way of life. But being part of this landscape also comes with responsibility.
Becoming Reserve Guardians is our way of actively supporting the conservation of Penhale Dunes. Working alongside Cornwall Wildlife Trust and the dedicated Penhale ranger, Jon Cripps, we’re contributing to efforts that protect this unique habitat for future generations.
Recently, our team had the chance to explore the dunes with Jon. It was an eye-opening experience. We learned just how interconnected everything is - the plants stabilising the sand, the insects pollinating the flowers, and the birds nesting safely away from human interference. Seeing it first-hand made it clear how essential it is to preserve places like Penhale.
What This Means Going Forward
Being a Reserve Guardian isn’t just a badge we wear. It’s a commitment.
Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing more about Penhale Dunes—its wildlife, the ongoing conservation work, and how small actions can make a big difference. We’re planning educational content, special collaborations, and initiatives like beach cleans, all designed to raise awareness and support these efforts.
How You Can Get Involved
Caring for Cornwall’s coastlines is something we can all take part in, whether it's learning more about local wildlife, supporting conservation projects, or simply being mindful when exploring nature.
